Background information
The NSW Government is leading the way in the race towards net zero emissions. The Net Zero Plan Stage 1: 2020-2030 sets out the state’s ambitious plan to accelerate emissions reduction, with the shift to electric vehicles (EV) playing an important part.
Through the NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy, the NSW Government is looking to accelerate the fleet of the future with the aim to increase EV sales to more than 50% of all new car sales by 2030–31.
Action 2 under the strategy focuses on building a world-class EV charging network across NSW, supported by a $149 million investment in fast-charging infrastructure.
This investment will expand the public EV charging network over the next four years to encourage and support the growth of the EV market by:
- filling EV charging blackspots across regional and metropolitan NSW
- overcoming range anxiety by developing a broad, visible and accessible fast-charging network
- ensuring connectivity between metropolitan and regional areas
- future-proofing the EV charging network beyond 2030
- ensuring funding supports projects that would not have otherwise occurred.
The Drive electric NSW EV fast charging grants will support Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to construct EV fast charging stations within eligible round 4 zones as identified on the NSW EV fast charging master plan interactive map.
Drive electric NSW fast charging grants
The total available funding for Round 4 is $39 million. Grant funding will be offered through a competitive single stage application process. The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department) will assess eligibility and basic charging station details.
- Applications will be assessed against all round 4 eligibility and merit criteria. All applicants will be assessed on their capacity to build, own, and operate public DC charging assets.
- Only applications that meet the eligibility criteria will be competitively assessed against the four merit criteria (Cost and value, User experience, Applicant capability, and Network readiness).
- Co-funding can include renewable energy generation and battery storage for EV charging stations.
- Funding will be prioritised for projects that can demonstrate both value for money and merit, including building regional charging stations, compliance to the mandatory 1:1 regional participation ratio, and innovation in station design, and diversity of locations proposed.
Useful information to support your application
- Essential reading: Before completing this application, please read the Round 4 funding guidelines, available on the NSW Fast charging grants website.
- Program FAQS: Refer to the dedicated EV fast charging grants FAQs webpage for guidance on common questions.
Supporting files for your application: Files can only be uploaded one at a time, so please allow enough time for each file to finish uploading before attaching the next. Files can be up to 25 MB each, though we recommend keeping them under 5 MB as larger files take longer to upload.
How to gain access to the list of potential EV charging sites in NSW: Potential site hosts across NSW have registered expressions of interest (EOIs) to host EV fast charging stations. It is not compulsory to use these sites if you have an alternate site you wish to nominate. To gain access to the current list:
- Send an email to evfc@environment.nsw.gov.au with the subject line “Request for EV site host list”.
- You will be asked to agree to a confidentiality and disclosure statement, after which a link will be provided.
